Ethereals origins and species progression is unknown. They do come from another plane, possibly a wizard summoned them and lost control and they started to reproduce on this plane. They have no discernable body or mass, simply a floating mist which makes them highly resistant to weapons but electricity is a big weakness of theirs due to the water particles present in their form. They can fly and are some of the best minds in the world. They are more akin to mage professions than fighting. They must be good or neutral. Ethereals who turn to evil lose their ability to cast magic spells.

Texts, however, suggest a different beginning of this race. In the days of Valor, around the time the demon-summoners known as the Brethren wreaked havoc, "The Tome of Magius, Last Ethereal Tenor" was written. It records the ethereals' imminent extinction. For purposes not accounted for in the book, the Brethren had allegedly sealed a portal that Lady Xyza herself opened during an earlier era. This portal, known as the "Origin," is what once allowed ethereals entry into Thera so long ago...

More recently, Lord Nimnryth opened a second ethereal portal for purposes not known. Virtually nothing escapes the notice of the Dark Father; neither the notice of those that inhabit the same hierarchy of power in the Heavens. So the portal was short-lived, indeed. Lord Rungekutta corrupted the second portal, instead of shutting it, just celestials after its inception.

Among those that entered Thera from the second portal, an aeromancer known as Vordok stepped through. After this ethereal became Master of the Conclave of Wizardry, Lord Nimnryth sewed a number of unseen fractal tethers into his incorporeal body. The moons Gu, Erohach & Lomenthiel formed a massive equilateral triangle per a rare orbital cycle. Through preparations provided in advance by a fae known as Minius, those tethers were then anchored into the very fabric of Thera's own space once their cosmic energy descended. Vordok's wizardress, Gresilda, conjured mirrors all about him to direct this energy. A living portal had thus been opened. One that, whenever Vordok was to pass on, would fuse itself somewhere not readily revealed to any by Lord Nimnryth.
