Shamutanti was born in Midgaard and at a young age was sent to study in Monastary. He had always dreamed of becoming one of the best in the school. He was fast learner and advanced quickly among his peers. This was still not enough for Shamutanti and he dreamed of becoming more. At the time, he despised those of those of the dark and sought out the House of Life. However, he was not violent enough for them, always choosing to find a peaceful course of action and leaving violence as a last measure. This caught the eye of Cirdan, The Eternal Flame, Lord of Peace. Soon Shamutanti was known as a Knight of Valor, then Elder, always quick to help those among his House and teach them the ways of Peace. This was still not enough for Shamutanti. When Shamutanti’s spirit left the mortal plane, Valor began to fall into disarray without any guidance. Shamutanti knew now was his chance to accomplish more. Shamutanti’s vision and Valor’s lack of guidance tugged Shamutanti back to take control of the House which he did for many years after. Many knights came and left, but soon the Knights became tainted and disrespectful. Shamutanti soon decided that the Knights no longer stood for what it once was and closed the doors.

Ages passed after Valor was nothing but ruins and a distant memory. The Lord of Dreams, always trying to do more and do better decided to access the realm of nightmares and take control of it that many other immortals have all failed at. Successful, Shamutanti became known as the Phantasm of Dreams and Nightmares. However, things did not turn out quite how he expected. What started as a small bump in his side began to grow and twist. Nightmares was taking on a shape of its own and stretched and pulled at Shamutanti’s form. The final result was another torso and head attached to him; a conjoined twin, also known as a parapagus by the way it is attached. This new form goes by the name of Schlam, the true owner of the sphere of Nightmares. Schlam is basically a twisted parody of Shamutanti with thoughts and desires of its own. Unlike Shamutanti, Schlam is an embodiment of darkness. The separation of these two forms seems unlikely as they both need each other now to continue their existence. Both immortals know this but this does not prevent Schlam from tormenting his opposite any way he can.
