As a mortal, Abasdarhon was an enchanter by trade, primarily driven by his research and delighting in finding new or more efficient formulae. Before very long, Abasdarhon realized that in all interactions, there is always an exchange of some medium, be it information, goods, services, or energy. Using that insight, he began to barter with his skills of enchanting for gold, and on occasion, goods or information. In time, his work was often sought after, and except for periods of research, Abasdarhon was more than willing to barter.
As time passed, Abasdarhon began considering to what use his wealth might be put, when he realized that wealth is a power to shape events and even Fortune. He began directing his research towards further understanding of this epiphany, and during this research, he came to understand the relationship of Fortune and Fate. He cast his perception of this relationship into a picture of a web of indeterminate shape, the myriad lines of the web representing Fortune, and the ends of the lines representing Fate.
Inspired by this new knowledge, Abasdarhon spent much of his idle time seeking deeper understanding of this web, and the impact it has upon all things. He soon discovered, to his dismay, that his mortal mind was too limited to go any further, and he determined to find a means to transcend this mortal limit. He brought all of his knowledge to bear in what would be his final act of research as a mortal, spending his last 50 years to find a means. In the end, he came upon a means that seemed promising, and he steeled his will to undertake the risk. He was shocked to discover after making the attempt, that he had been raised to the ranks of the immortals, but to this day, Abasdarhon does not know if his attempt was successful, or if the Gods chose to grant him his wish.
Fate, the idea that all ends are predetermined and these ends are immutable. Fortune, the force which directs all things to their Fate, and is highly susceptible to influence. Mercantilism, a system in which a favorable balance of power (goods, services, information and wealth) through exchange is sought by its practitioners. These are the tenets that Lord Abasdarhon embraces, and also those who choose to follow his guidance.
