Some people are gifted with the ability to use the Weave to call forth magic. A large number of these found that they did not simply want to channel this power but to use to control the existing elements and surroundings to aid them in their endeavors. These mages began to use the Weave to control nothing but the elements and became known as Elementalists.

The original Elementalists did not seek to use any particular element over another. They found that all of them, when used together, could provide everything they needed. These Elementalists could control all the elements with various amounts of energy used to create different effects from each element, keeping all of them equal. They were even able to use their powers to summon forth native creatures from the elemental planes. These elementals would serve them faithfully until their bodies upon this plane are destroyed. As more people began to use the elements they found that they had affinities towards certain ones over others.

Some were drawn to the pure power of fire. They were entranced by the beauty of its dance as well as by the shear power found within. They discovered a simple rule, "Everything burns" and unless something was made of fire, it too would burn. They molded and shaped their magic with fire so much that they could not learn more than simple incantations from other elements and their close affinity to fire made them not be able to control water at all. They became so engrossed with fire that their calls to the elemental planes other than that of fire would not be answered. They become so close to fire that even their bodies may take on the properties of the flames that they so cherish.

Like those of fire, those of water were drawn to it for all of its qualities. Its soothing grace, its gentle flow, and its quiet, unceasing power. They found that water could put out fire and even push earth with enough time and pressure. They began to experiment with all the ways water could aid them. They too became so engrossed with water that they could not use any but the basic abilities of the other elements and found that they could not even control the simplest properties of fire. It would not obey them. They can become so engrossed with water that their bodies become infused with it and take up the properties of their element of devotion and they only wish to call upon their brethren from the plane of water.

Still others went into the earth to find what they sought. They took the embrace of the earth for its steadfastness, its utter strength and hardness, and its protection. They found that the earth can be called upon both to protect those who stand upon it or within it and can be manipulated to harm any who are likewise. They make the earth shake and even leap up and grab onto or swallow those who oppose them. They can ask the earth to embrace them and shield them within it. Moving almost undetected and untouchable underneath its surface. After being within the earth for such a long time their bodies begin to take on aspects of earth. They harden and become like the earth. Tough, long lasting and unyielding. As they are a part of the firm earth they sacrifice the powers of the air, a fickle thing that constantly struggles against the earth. They only seek to call upon the natives of the plane of earth for aid and as friends.

The air can be a tricky element to catch, but it can be worth it. Many who seek the air wish to leave at least part of their lives behind and travel upon and within the air. They are adept at controlling the weather which exists high up within the air. They control the wind and the lightning that come with storms. They can cause the weather to reach states of hurricane proportion or can calm the winds so that a ship without rowers would be dead in the water. The more they use the powers of air the more in tune with the air they become. Their bodies become charged with electricity causing lightning to become harmless to them. They are so much a part of the wind that they become able to fly without any magic controlling such a thing. They also have the ability to separate massive numbers of beings from the earth. They can control minor elements of fire and water, as the wind cooperates with both, but it will have nothing to do with the stoic earth. It is to free to be bound in the earth in any way.
