"Two dwarves are walking along and one of them walks into a bar, the other one ducks. From that smarter dwarf, the gnome race sprung." This is the story the elder gnome scholars speak of when asked the evolution of the gnome race. Most other races know this is just a part of gnomish society, deep thinking with witty sayings. Gnomes are the tinkerers and sages of the lands. With great wisdom and patience, they delve into areas of study that most races care not to go. Gnomes society is broken up into two larges groups, those who dwell in the earth and mine for precious stones, the Svirfneblin or deep gnomes, and the Tinkerer gnomes who tend to live above ground and are famous, or infamous in some circles, for their experimentation.

Gnomes can be found on any path in life, finding an easy time with most professions due to their wit and wisdom. Many gnome cities are centered around trade with dealings in precious metals and rare gemstones which treated as very important items.

The second smallest sentient species in the land, averaging 3' in height, Gnomes are usually pale grey to brown skinned and see in the dark using infravision. Tough, wiry little creatures, gnomes live a long time and are said accumulate wisdom and knowledge like racial sponges. Due to their size and thinner bones, they are vulnerable to attacks of a blunt nature. Weaker physically than most races, they excel in the priestly and magical arts.
